On page 181 of the book there is mention of members of the Eden Valley Mountaineering Club running a relay over the Wainwrights in 1993. This challenge was taken up by the current members of the Club. Over 4 ½ days in June 2025 16 members ran around the 214 Wainwrights, following roughly the same route taken by Steve Birkenshaw.
Weather is often a big factor in multi-day activities and the relay started in fine conditions but it grew worse to torrential weather, which seemed to peak for the projected 7 hour leg over Wasdale Screes, Scafells, Bowfell and Crinkles which in the end took 11 hours !!
They all battled on and eventually returned to the Moot Hall, in Keswick.
